Sit Downs

When SOOTS has time on campus, we want to invite others to share a meal and a story or two. We've opened our rooms to guest performers, lecturers and alumni panelists. We've heard from Music Maker organizers and musicians, professional photographers, record-label producers and founders, writers, chefs and other social entrepreneurs. SOOTS is always looking to learn how creative thinkers came to be and how continue to practice their art, whatever its form or function. Ask a SOOTS student who they've met and be ready for a story worth telling, again and again.

Sister Lena Mae Perry and Phil Cook: Tuesday, April 9th from 3:00pm to 4:30pm
Sister Lena Mae Perry is a renowned gospel singer who hails from Johnston County, North Carolina. She is one third of a trio called the Branchettes, who have been singing together for over 20 years.

Phil Cook is a famous guitarist, banjoist, pianist, and singer who hails from Durham. He currently plays in three different bands: Megafaun, Gayngs, and Shouting Matches. He has released four solo studio albums, the most recent of which is entitled "People Are My Drug."

SOOTS was very excited to be hosting this very talented duo for a sit down on April 9th! They, among other artists, are the heart and purpose of the SOOTS organization. We could not do our work without their priceless talent and art. We are always grateful for when artists and performers are able to share their art with us, as it not only gives them a chance to celebrate their art, but it enriches the RCHS and local community.
