Sustaining Roots Music (SOOTS) exists to foster an appreciation for traditional, Southern music and culture. We believe this appreciation will engage our fellow students in greater communities. We pursue the preservation of artistic wisdom to help create a more perfect world - Sustaining Roots Music/Community Project of Raleigh Charter High School
At 7:00pm on Friday, April 23rd, the doors of the historic LongView Center on Moore Square will open for a concert featuring Boo Hanks, Tarboro bluesman George Higgs and Durham blues guitarist John Dee Holeman. The benefit concert has been developed by a group of Raleigh Charter High School students who created the Sustaining Roots Music/Community Project (SOOTS) as part of the local school’s citizenship curriculum. The SOOTS project started in 2006 and held its third annual concert last year. The 2009 Friday night concert brought in over 275 people. This year’s Friday night show promises to have a packed house of people from all over the Triangle. The LongView Center can seat 450.
SOOTS will be advertising this event through local media sources such as the N&O’s Weekend section, the Independent, local college radio, posters and flyers in local restaurants, coffee shops, and community boards. Tickets will be $10.00 at the door and proceeds will go to support Music Maker Relief Foundation’s treasured artists.
